The Healing Touch

It begins

The slightest of touches

Soft

Gentle

Yet somehow

There is so much more

Fingers

Tracing

The outline of a face

Skin

Immediately absorbing

That

Which cannot be seen

No words exchanged

The recipient

Quietly closes its eyes

Her fingertips

Offering

Anesthetic comfort

Transferring

That

Which appears

To be a limitless supply

of healing

For now…

It is simply numbing the pain

Preparation

Until the object’s full weight

Is held

Completely

Within her hands

She closes her eyes

In an effort

To lose herself

Knowing

Each individual scar

Will be encountered

In the exact order

In which they were received

Requiring a touch

Much more powerful

Than hers alone

To venture much deeper

Reach the source

“Use me”

It is her simple, yet silent request

Her arms

Bringing the object

Closer

Both minds

Now Lost

Oblivious

To a world

Continuing to swirl

Around them

There are only two

Suspended

Like a warm whisper

It begins

An exhale

His breath

Travelling

Dangerously close to hers

“Use me”

Her soul repeats the request

“You may lose that which you so desperately wish to heal”

The message that is received

A warning

A firm response

She proceeds

As if blindfolded

Seeking

The necessary contact

With the heart of that

Finally ready

To release

Years of toxicity

It must happen softly

The final connection

And it begins

Her breath

Taken

She is submerged

As if held underwater

The process happening so quickly

Warm comfortable liquid

Crashing through walls

Filling in every crack

Formerly unexposed scars

Too numerous to be counted

Tears

Stream

Silently

Covering her face

This request

This silent plea

Approved

She opens her eyes

And begins searching

Have they all been healed?

Finds

Purity

Innocence

Gentleness

Free from all hurt

Her mind

Regaining full consciousness

Gently nudging her

It is almost time

She watches

As his mental exhaustion settles in

Eyes

Fluttering closed

Softly, she lays him down

Confirms his slumber

Then removes

Her final touch

Disconnects

Assuring herself

This

Will forever

Be worth

This price that has been paid

He awakens

His mind

Begins searching

But for what?

He can’t recall
