Sometimes Life is Buttoned Up….

Is buttoned up

With its daily schedule

Achievements of great successes

Around each one

Peeks another

And just within reach

Is buttoned up

The spouse

The children

The home

The job

The extra-curricular

Buttoned up

The only thing one must be sure of

Is the very threads holding the button to the garment

We remember the story of The Mitten

Reminding us

Life can hold so much more than we dare to stretch its’ limits

I see now

So very clearly

I notice your mittens

So very perfect in every way

Wool, of the best kind

Every stitch a perfect match to the one before it

I look down at mine and smile

One, not quite perfect but close enough

The other, stretched out to an absolute uselessness

I laugh looking out as large snowflakes begin falling from an enormous sky

So very grateful

To live a life

Not quite buttoned up
